[News] My Brother’s Husband by Tagame Gengoroh wins Eisner Award

Tagame Gengoroh’s 2 volume manga My Brother’s Husband won the award for “Best U.S. Edition of International Material – Asia” at this year’s Will Eisner Comic Industry awards presented last weekend at SDCC.

The manga is about Yaichi, a single dad living with his daughter, who is suddenly visited by his gay twin’s Canadian husband. Here’s the summary from Amazon:

Yaichi is a work-at-home suburban dad in contemporary Tokyo; formerly married to Natsuki, father to their young daughter, Kana. Their lives suddenly change with the arrival at their doorstep of a hulking, affable Canadian named Mike Flanagan, who declares himself the widower of Yaichi’s estranged gay twin, Ryoji. Mike is on a quest to explore Ryoji’s past, and the family reluctantly but dutifully takes him in. What follows is an unprecedented and heartbreaking look at the state of a largely still-closeted Japanese gay culture: how it’s been affected by the West, and how the next generation can change the preconceptions about it and prejudices against it.

Unlike most manga, this one is available as a really pretty hard-cover edition, and also inspired a live-action mini-series which aired in spring this year.

The U.S. edition of the manga was released in two volumes and both volume 1 and volume 2 are available as hardcover or ebook editions on Amazon.

The original Japanese edition of Otouto no Otto was released in four volumes and is available on CDJapan:
Volume 1
Volume 2
Volume 3
Volume 4
